Bad cover videos - Am I missing something?

Post by Jules »

People like to post videos of themselves playing through songs poorly. I don't get it. When I post a video of myself playing it is to demonstrate my gear. IF I was going to post a video of me playing through a song, I would be sure I either nailed it as it was originally done, or played what would obviously be an interpretation of it. I can't see myself just posting videos of me crudely playing over something.

Here is an example that came up for some reason. This guy has a decent feel, with the beat but doesn't even try to get the fills right. And on one feel he is busy twirling his drumstick and misses the first half of the fill altogether.

Am I being too critical? I just don't understand posting half assed things like this. If I posted a video of me reciting the Gettysburg Address but made up half of it; how would that be any different?

Thanks for coming!

I think it's just the nature of social media and the desire to post stuff for the attention. Maybe this guy picked up drums later in life and this is the best he can do. I look back at some videos of playing in my younger days. So glad social media wasn't around back then cause a majority of them are terrible! Who am I kidding, my current videos aren't great. :)

One joke that has run its course are drummers playing different songs as if Lars was playing it. That's intentionally bad, so not the same as this video. But we get it, joke's old!
