Reconnecting with those old Sonor emotions...

Post by Jules »

I have posted this already and assume that many/most have watched it. If you haven't; you should. It very literally made remember why Sonor was so special to me all those years ago. It didn't make me long for the old gear, but it certainly took me back to the love and passion I had when I discovered Sonor. Reminiscent of that first love of your life.

I can honestly say I never really knew much about Jack back in the day. However Journey was my all-time favorite band growing up, and I tried to learn everything I possibly could about Steve Smith back then. He's definitely the reason I was turned on to Sonor...and then when I saw the drums up close at the Huey Lewis show in the early 80s, I was really hooked. Those drums sounded absolutely incredible.

I couldn't tell you much about Jack DeJohnette, really. What I CAN tell you was that when I started buying Modern Drummer in 1985, he was in ads, articles and reader's polls. He has been engrained into the Sonor landscape of my mind as much as anyone. Terribly sad feeling when I learned of his passing.

Yeah--I remember seeing him back in then in MD as well. I used to read every issue cover-to-cover, repeatedly. Now I can't even tell you when I saw a copy last.
