Aftermarket Bass Drum Logo Heads...

Post by Jules »

When you put a Sonor logo on a bass drum head, how do you make sure to get the placement correct? Do you just eyeball it and hope for the best? I am struggling with how I want to muffle this Vintage series bass drum. Felt strips are a serious consideration BUT, I once had a Sonor bass drum (I don't remember which one) that had had the felt strips actually compress the bearing edge on the shell noticeably. Ever since, I have been skittish about using them.

I have had a REMO Felt Tone Fiberskyn before and my only criticism of it is the placement of the felt strip, though many may see that as trivial. If I find an old Fiberskyn head I may try Acetone to remove the Remo logo just to see how easily that can be done without damaging the head. That would let me orient the felt strip to my liking without having the Remo logo offset.

Another idea is to find the proper adhesive to affix a felt strip onto the factory reso logo head, avoiding potential issues with the bearing edge. This may be the simplest fix yet, and with minimal consequences when I go to resell the drums in 4 0r 5 years, or in December. (Humor)

Fine sandpaper works better than acetone for removing the Remo logo on Fiberskyn heads.

I was going to mention - I'd been warned acetone doesn't work on the Fiberskyn heads, neither do aftermarket decals.

I'm yet to test this, or find a solution. Makes me especially cautious about cutting a hole in the Vintage Series front heads given it may be borderline impossible to get another.

I was quite a fan of this look Pascal Beauregard came up with, using the very old style logo, but just taking the twin mallets. I think if I do any 'custom' front heads it would be a variation of this:
