Tom tom on a snare stand - yea or nay?

Post by Jules »

What’s your take on putting a tom on a snare stand instead of a tom stand or mount?

SEEMS to me that it would hamper resonance in theory, but I guess it must work good, it’s certainly a thing.

Thoughts? Experience?

Thanks for coming!

I think it would depend on both the size of the tom (12" would be the smallest I'd' try it with) and if I'm concerned about the resonance or not.

For example - I don't know that using a snare stand or a tom arm would make much of an observable difference in the resonance of my 13" Phonic tom. I'd expect it would make more of an observable difference on something like a 13" SQ2 tom where the mount is designed to enhance (or not restrict) the resonance.

Sq2 - Med Beech, Rosewood finish - 10/12/14/16/18/22 + 6.5x14
Performer - Wine Red, 12/13/16/22 + 6.5x14 (D456)
Phonic - Oak, 13/14/16/22
