DW Snare Drum Butt Plates: 3-position and 5-position

Post by Jules »

I am openly not a DW fan. If I were going on a huge tour and had the option of DW building me a killer rig, the excitement of such an opportunity would eventually wear off and I would be left with the emptiness of just not liking what DW does in general, plus the bigger negative which is just not liking the DW sound.

Here is one shining example that I came across while working at DCP.

$5 difference in price. And the 3 way is on a more mid line snare series whereas the 5 way is on the Collector series. You can't see it in these pictures, but what makes one a 3 way and one 5 way is a cheap piece of formed metal that I surmise is a stamped or forged little bar of zinc of something along those lines. Other than the initial tooling to make 2 more notches, there is no added expense in the production of the 5 way over the 3 way, yet a five dollar difference in the street price of the parts.

I have never been a far of DW's marketing. There is some genius to some things DW, but there is a lot of bullshit, too.

I'm not a fan either, but you've gotta give them credit for becoming the Ludwig of a different generation of drummers in the 90's.
