Reasons why it sucks not having Sonor dealers stocking full line gear...

Post by Jules »

I am going to get this ball rolling and PLEASE add to it! This will be used for an upcoming video...

At the Music City Drum Show, there were both models of the 600 Series Thrones on display with the Anniversary Kits. I was amazed at the feel and build quality of the thrones, as I had never seen anything other than the Force 1000 in person. I am not saying that I would buy one over the Spinal G that I have grown to love, BUT I bet they would sell more of them if the dealers actually displayed them. What's the purpose of designing, engineering and manufacturing of something if you aren't going to make reasonable efforts to sell them?

Another thing is the SQ2 line in general. Having worked at DCP (albeit briefly) I had plenty of opportunity to peruse the floor myself and also to watch the reactions of people who were looking at this gear for the first time. Sonor's high end gear doesn't resonate (clumsy pun intended) as well through media as it does when you are standing there looking at it and comparing it to other gear. Sonor would seemingly sell better and more if they had a better presence in more accessible dealerships.

One of the local shops up here (before they closed) used to have some of the German Sonor kits on the floor (D-Lite, Prolite, etc), and just their presence on the floor pulled people's attention like a magnet, no matter what brand they played.

They have this ability to stand out on a show floor, kind of like a Mercedes surrounded by a lot full of Toyotas...

Sq2 - Med Beech, Rosewood finish - 10/12/14/16/18/22 + 6.5x14
Performer - Wine Red, 12/13/16/22 + 6.5x14 (D456)
Phonic - Oak, 13/14/16/22

Yep. Wonder where the disconnect is on this. Seems like KHS would incentivize having a healthy display. When I did my buy in, I had to order way more than they have to order, now. Doesn't make sense, but the also are touting two brands, so one could surmise that what they lack on Sonor sales they are making up for with Mapex.

Walk into any ATL Guitar Center and observe the hoodlums banging away on floor sets. Would you put SQ2 gear out on the floor? How to you determine who gets to play it?

Its the diminishing sales % down the ladder

Sonor make 100% products

Country distributors import a percentage of what they perceive to be sellable in their market country. 75%

The sales rep then has to show what is imported to the store and they pick out what will sell in their area. 30/50% (of 75%)

Just imagine what that Sonor throne is competing against for floor space in every store. If i made a list, it would be so long we would be amazed how so many companies exist and stay in business.

And in the internet age, the more discerning you are they more you are likely to research a higher-end item through the internet, and then if you have chosenn buy it from the cheapest place you can find on the internet.
