Having used them (the same MAY mount system in the video) myself on my Birch Designer kit, I have to agree with everything he said. From the isolation and very "hot" signal, to the "set it and forget it" making setup/teardown a lot quicker. Also, no risk of an over-zealously animated band member knocking over your mic stands, or a stray hit taking out a hoop-mounted mic...

Birch Designer kit - 12x10 with Senheiser e602, 14x14, 16x16 floors and 22x16 kick with Electrovoice n/d868's, and 14x6.5 snare with Shure SM-57 in it - Every place with a house engineer I played LOVED that I was already mic'd up. Saved time and effort, and was told they were a breeze to dial in during sound checks. Only had one complaint from an engineer who had to run separate overheads instead of capturing the cymbals through the tom mics...

Biggest complaint I hear from people is about the "basketball sound" from internal mics. Some of that comes down to positioning/placement, and some comes down to mic selection. You'll never get away from it completely, but there's nothing saying you have too use them 100% of the time.

Sq2 - Med Beech, Rosewood finish - 10/12/14/16/18/22 + 6.5x14
Performer - Wine Red, 12/13/16/22 + 6.5x14 (D456)
Phonic - Oak, 13/14/16/22
