I bought a set… hopefully I get them to try them out.

Where did you order them from? I've just been through their website and they don't show a 10-hole 14-inch set... :(

That makes a pretty strong case for trying some out...

I agree - especially since a set of the die-cast hoops from Sonor (via DCP, Sam, etc) list at $300 or more for the pair... - BUT those do have the open snare gate/cutout on the snare side and these don't.

They do make the idea of adding these on a non-Dial Glide snare like a Kompressor more appealing though, as that open gate isn't nearly as important or useful on one of those.

I agree with the issue with the dual glide. My SQ2 were made in 2012 when the dual first came out. The Hella hoops don’t have the open space as I guess they had hella hoops left over. My thought the molds are from this era (pre dual glide) and since Sonor doesn’t use them anymore, Hella sold them.

I think these would be perfect for a kompressor series snares. They are doubled chromed and not triple chromed. I don’t know about the quality of the material used but they seem to be very close and you would be hard pressed to tell the difference, except for the chroming.

UPDATE:

I have it from a reliable source that Beatello is not in any way associated with Sonor, despite their mention of Sonor in the social media snippet I attached in the original post.

Chris (Hazelwood7) will be on Coffee with Jules tomorrow and we will be discussing the hoops he received. His order, and our conversation occurred before it came to light that these are not a Sonor endorsed product.

For the record; I had toyed with the idea of order 100 sets of hoops when they were first released and the 100 quantity would yield $40/set pricing!

At this point, I cannot and will not speculate on how Beatello came to manufacturing hoops that are otherwise specific to Sonor AND bear the Hella logo, but for me the information that the company is not a Sonor/KHS affiliate quashes my interest in these hoops.

Just the facts. I am not condemning anyone that has bought or eventually buys these.

If China had the concept of copyright at all, Sonor/Hella should be calling the lawyers, but we know that will be an entirely futile effort.

If I knew these were counterfeit, I would not have bought them. I thought for their posts that they bought the molds from Hella. They could have got a hold of the hella hoops and copied them. So I would say that if you are going to buy them, be aware of that fact.

Well, I saw a spot on the hoop that flaked off revealing the copper layer. I think it goes zink copper, nickel, chrome. Looks llke the issue could be defect in adhering the stack together. Also a very thin layer of chrome. I saw little pitting marks on the hoops. Looks like it will flake off more over time. I initiated a refund and I have to send it a US warehouse and they sent me a free shipping label.

Big shout out to Chris for taking one for the team, even though that wasn't his intention. I am disappointed for him for this to turn out like it did, but from the 'bigger picture' perspective, I am glad that we know this is not a quality product BEFORE lots of people go through the process of ordering.

More than THAT, I hope that this information will keep people from putting these on their drums that would eventually be sold with knock off Hella hoops. Future buyers may never know that these knockoffs existed and assume that Hella was/is producing some bad products.
