150th Anniversary Limited Edition Sonor Signature and Sonorlite Shell Sets...

Post by Jules »

There are still a number of these available for sale in new condition. These are something that if a dealer can afford to keep them boxed and safe for a few years, they may have a good value down the road. At the same time, for those dealers (one in particular) that have gotten stuck with several of them, that is a lot of money to have tied up in dead weight.

I wonder if the soft market is now made worse by the fact that the 150th Anniversary is now over, and these could be considered akin to buying new car from last year's model year. I don't see a panic to dump them, but it is an interesting situation to me.

Not so sure about that. Things that are designed to be collectible often don’t increase in value. Especially large expensive drum sets. The 150th bronze snares are a different story, I think

You may be right. Maybe I am trying to be optimistic. There is some serious money tied up in several of these set at one dealer, in particular.

That dealer isnt going to be buying any SQ2's for stock till they get out from under those sets. That's bad for the shop and bad for the distributor.

No one who has already bought one is going to be very happy if they go on sale either! ( and I wonder if they are embargoed from sale prices)

You can say that the signature and lite sets have suffered due to being at a very high price point, but I'm surprised that the AQ2 sets are still available, i thought at its sub 2000euro price point it would have sold out of the 500 worldwide.
Is the close to 500euro extra over a stock AQ2 making people buying in that price range not care that much, is the AQ2 line not highlevel enough for Sonor collectors to care?

I wonder WHO they had in mind for potential buyers when they developed that. I wonder who developed the concept. I know that the KHS America brand manager was involved in the development of some of Sonor's recent product lines, and it makes me wonder if having one's finger in too many pies makes the lines of distinction blur. I would have NEVER thought that AQ2s would be big sellers to Sonor collectors, and I am not saying that's what they were going for, mind you. Not sure how many budget minded Sonor loyalists were excited enough to pony up that kind of money for a beautiful finish and badge. Of course, tariffs were a factor in pricing on those in the U.S., and the game may have been different if not for that.

I think they should have given us some $1750-$2250 snare drums instead. One time only finishes. Maybe small batch type thing. Offer several finish options but only so many of each finish.

And NOT having T-Shirts, hats or whatever is pretty unforgivable. I can't for the life of me understand that. If KHS America (for example), had several styles of limited run shirts, they could have likely sold out overnight as was the case with the $5,500 (USD) snare drums. SO much they could have done, and didn't.
