Are business cards passé?

Post by Jules »

In this modern world, are business cards old school, or should I have them available at the drum show in July?

Keep in mind that if I hand out cards, they will not be el cheapo cards I print off at home. They would be hogh quality cards that won’t smear or run.

Just not sure that they are still practical in this age.

My opinion is have some on hand to be prepared. While we are well entrenched in a digital world, there are still many folks who like the physical media.

AQ2 Stage Titanium Quartz 10/12/14/16/22
6 x 14 ProLite Snow Tiger
6.5 x 14 Brass Kompressor
SQ2 Heavy Beech African Marble ordered on 8/4/25 - ETA May 2026.

Having been at a few conventions where people were sharing cards/exchanging info, I'd suggest doing both physical and virtual cards. Virtual cards are usually either a QR code and/or an RFID readable tag that route someone to your contact info, and are nice because it ensures that people don't lose your card before they can enter your contact info.

Best of both worlds approach would be to have the virtual available for people to scan, and the QR code for the virtual printed on your physical card as well.

For a virtual card, I use the ones from Dot Cards - https://dotcards.net/ for both my consulting and my Non-Profit. Seem to work well so far, even with just the free service.

Sq2 - Med Beech, Rosewood finish - 10/12/14/16/18/22 + 6.5x14
Performer - Wine Red, 12/13/16/22 + 6.5x14 (D456)
Phonic - Oak, 13/14/16/22

They're still relevant in the right place but given you're pushing YouTuve as your main vehicle, you should have a big ass QR code people can scan that takes them straight to your channel to subscribe. And on the thing with the QR code, make it painfully obvious what it's for. Big YT logo and a 'see my videos and subscribe here'

Dave, I think you make a solid point. It’s not like I am selling snare drums to old school guys who aren’t online.

Haven’t ruled out the business cards, but it would be one of several expenditures that may not yield an ROI.

I will probably mull this over until it’s time to make a decision. All options are considered and appreciated
