Sounds like the job expectations were different from reality. Had that experience more than once myself.

All of the expectations were different from reality. Pay vs cost of living was a big one. Weather hadn't gotten brutally cold yet, but it was coming and I wasn't going to fair well. My joints are giving me hell right now and we have been having near-summer weather lately.
In a way it was like buying a new car. You sign the paperwork and set up the payment plan and the first month it's exciting and you enjoy that new car smell and the responses of your family and friends as you show it off. Later, everyone has seen it and the showroom shine isn't quite there, but the payments are the same.
I had owned a business making great money before the market for what I was doing fell out. So, I figured that going to the Largest Independently Owned Drum Store IN THE WORLD (sorry, had to do that despite the fact it has grown a little tiring in their videos - like they are waving around a big dick as if the store doesn't have other virtuous qualities) would be fun and exciting. In operation I found myself too far from family, and in a position where I would never be able to buy much of anything I wanted due to the long term cost of living.
Anyway, I plan to do a 'tell all' one day when the mood hits. ![]()
Thanks for coming!

I had no idea the cost of living in Portsmouth was expensive, I was shocked at some of the costs, especially rent. Must be the New England old money? I never cease to be amazed at how these very small communities can somehow support those cost structures. You can understand it somewhere like NYC where there are zillions of jobs and the associated dollars that inflate rent. But in this little town? I don't get it.
Hell you'd have to pay me $2MM annually to get me up there ROFL!!!!!

PART of it is the fact that there is no sales or income tax. The state runs off of property tax. So, everything is higher as a result. The landlords are having to pass it to the renters. The business owners either pay it built into the rent, or if they own the building they pay it to the local/state municipalities or however that works.
I found a ROOM up in Dover NH for $1300 monthly. 3 story building with a common bathroom and a common laundry area. I suppose all the tenants have portable toilets in their ROOMs. Parking was really fussy too. No off-street parking at all, and on snow days you have to park at the bus station. I didn't even bother looking for it to see how far away it was or how much parking they had.
I was told that I would be able to find an apartment for about $1000 a month and I took for granted that that was somewhat accurate. It wasn't. I still would have ended up back anyway.
Thanks for coming!
