Check the muffling? DWs have always sounded like basketballs, to me. That'll fix 'em. Is that a set list taped to the snare? How does a piece of paper taped to a snare batter head stand a chance in a metal concert? I guess his UBER laidback playing is the key.

How to get DWs NOT to sound like basketballs...
Never been a fan of DW drums, and I had two kits back in the day--both had re-rings, as that's all that was available back in the 90s. Maybe now I would like them more as there are a bunch of different options for wood and configurations (plies, lamination directions, edges, etc). But the ones I had back in the day just didn't do it for me.
I think the snare head just has about a half a roll of duct tape on it. Looks like what they didn't use on the snare, they used on the other drums.

Check the playing - he's either high or done brain damage from past drugs. He looks like he is struggling to play a very simple song. I lost a cousin to opioids.....sad.

Not trying to take shots - been through this with family. Long term opioid abuse actually does cause various levels of brain degradation. Listen to Frank Beard of ZZ Top speak today. Less than 13% of people stay clean after opioid addiction, and I do sometimes wonder if they've relapsed. But remembering my cousin, his brain was shot after two rounds of treatment. He stayed clean for years and basically could not function at an emotional and or logic / reasoning level. Relapsed on fentanyl and overdosed. This is one drug not to mess with, it's for real. At one point in ancient Chinese history (15th century?) you had some 40% of the country strung out smoking opium. It got so bad the emperor back then sicked the military on them with swords and burned all their fields.
Prior to regulatory changes in 2014 doctors were giving them away like sweet tarts, many started abusing them.
Being hooked on snuff tobacco and going through hell to get off of it was all the addiction this guy needed. Very grateful I never got into this.
