The People Behind SONOR | Meet Product Manager Jannis

Post by Jules »

I think y'all have figured out by now that I am pro-modern Sonor almost rabidly. Everything I have in my personal rig is current production models. I am very positive about the direction the company is headed in terms of products and quality.

The one thing disappointing about things for me (and this is CERTAINLY intended to trigger all viewpoints and opinions) is that going by this video alone, Sonor is longer a trendsetter, but rather evaluating trends to follow. But, times have changed. The Signature series was deliberately over the top, but also busted sales expectations. The Designer Series took drum building to new heights which was taken even a step further with SQ2 and the Configurator.

So many companies have closed the gaps in the meantime. Are there any more glass ceilings, left? Is the market so saturated with high quality gear at every price point (relatively speaking) that there are no real plateaus to aim for? What's the next real breakthrough and who is going to pull it off?

I am playing both sides of the field here, because truth be told, while playing devil's advocate; I am very excited to see what Sonor still has up its sleeve, and I have high expectations. ;)

I wonder if right now isn't the right time economically to be trying to innovate? We'd all much rather see them lean into their heritage and continue to produce great things than try something new and because money is tight everywhere, go bust trying.

Nice little video. I noticed the interpreter pronounced it Suh-nor most of the time, but So-nor a couple of times. My high school band director often spoke of sonority (suh-nority), so I have never doubted how it should be pronounced. ;)

Strikes me that Jannis has to have one of the most desirable jobs in the drumming world. My day job is currently something very similar but in a tech field and I'd love to have his gig.
