1983 Sonor Signature Series Horst Link Bubinga 8-Piece Drum Set

Post by griffenkranz »

Accepting offers! Very good condition 1983 Sonor Signature Series Horst Link African Bubinga 8 Piece drum set. Unbelievably excited to be posting this. Completely original, hardware included, and completely restored for four days straight removing rust, removing lugs to soak, completely replacing all new batter side coated ambassador heads and wiping every single inch of the shells safely to ensure they are as physically clean as they can be. Any wear you see in the pictures is the culmination of an incredible story of the original owners uncle traveling Europe playing these exact drums. These shells have been loved and played for a long time, and there is a very clear reason why. For anyone familiar with made in Germany Sonor drums, they are one of the holy grail sets for a large majority of drummers (whether they know it or not). More specifically the 8x14 snare that comes with this set. I can confidently say that this african bubinga snare drum is the best snare drum I have ever heard and had the pleasure of playing. Hands down. Loud, resonant, and probably the closest I've heard a snare drum come to hitting the "gunshot" example right on the mark. The original muffling system that came with these very well thought out drums is in perfect working condition, and really adds to the functionality of these drums live, or in a studio setting. The variation of tone and snare wire settings that can be achieved through the snare drum alone is worthy of a conversation on these German made drums. The toms remain deep and resonant, sporting "power tom" (square, 10x10, 12x12, 13x13, 14x14, 15x15, 16x16) sizes that were very popular in this era. Loud, while maintaining very clear stick definition. Wide open, the tom sound works very well in a jazz setting, with the 22 inch kick drum exhibiting some of the most impressive low end I have heard out of a 22 inch drum. Muffling applied, you find yourself playing some of the punchiest toms ever made. There really is something special to be said about the Black Forest african bubinga used in these drums. There really is nothing like it. All bearing edges are clean with no chips/minor play wear etc. Moving on to the original Sonor hardware that is included, the two crash stands, snare stand, and original tom mounts all included work well and are incredibly durable. Heavy, giving you the feeling they will definitely not move on a bouncy stage, or when recording. One crash stand was quite rusty upon purchase of these drums, and we spent time getting this stand to full potential while restoring. The rest of the hardware exhibits minor play wear, and continues to be strong and solid. All Sonor Signature Series Horst Link badges are in good condition, including the hardware. A very nice touch to include the badge on the official hardware. All lugs have been secured to the shells, and are solid and not moving/shaking etc. Snare throwoff works perfectly. All lugs and hardware have been lubed as well. Missing two rubber floor tom leg covers. Very sad to see this kit go, but it has been an incredible joy to play the last few days, and I am confident the new owner of this kit will immediately feel and acknowledge that they now own something very special. Happy to provide additional pictures/video demos as well! Willing to ship or drive a reasonable distance. These drums will be packed very secure and safely. Multiple boxes with individual tracking numbers will be provided upon purchase. More than happy to let any potential buyers play the drums in our treated practice room as well. Always open to offers!
