I have listened to enough videos with al the wood types to at least make a first impression of the sound. I must say they sound great. It's funny that they took the prolite mounts and the sound absorber floor tom legs to use on this series. In my other post on needed changes to mounting hardware options on SQ2, these videos reinforce my belief that the sq1 and prolite have superior drum hardware.

I wanted to hear how they sounded with this mounting combo option and finally here it is and the results are outstanding. The drums sing with many wood type and not a hint of chocking. So I will give it them that this is definitely different than the SQ2 series. I would say they are superior sounding. they made end up on the end being too open for some people but you can always take the ring out but you can't put it back in. I always liked the prolite sound better then my Delites (which I loved) and sq2 vintage maple shell. the toms on prolite are more open and ring longer then sq2 or delite. They are unique and when I had a chance to go get an sq2 vintage maple or the prolite, I chose the prolite. The sound absorbers also make the floor toms ring longer.

I wanted to hear this combo on the medium maple and beech shells. They now have a more open sound then the sq2 counterparts on toms and floor toms. I have a medium maple sq2 btw and had a medium beech sq2 which I sold and regret but I could not get the sustain out of the beech floors I wanted so I hear the momentum beech floor toms and I hear sustain.

I was also Wong about the OSM sizing for depth. When these sizes new used, I hear a beautiful musical cohesion and the toms sing off of each other. They now have the this strong sustain now but still has that same bell musical quality. They are also still very notey, as others Sonor drums are and are not smeared or overpowered by the sustain.

When Jannis discusses what user feedback was about the medium shells and how people asked him to do that forever, I sent Sonor and email 5-7 years ago, I had asked the same thing. Though I asked not only for the most popular shell options but a lot the most popular finish options as well. I didn't get African Marble on a production line drum series and I struggle with the current finish options but as they add finishes to the series, I think they will become a more popular option.

If someone were to take two identical shells from Momentum and SQ2, tune them the same and all, I wonder what the results would be.

The SQ2 has the acoustigate whereas the other series have not. Aside from that, the lugs on SQ2 have the APS which actually MAY be counter-productive. That's a lot of weight, and shell contact, whereas the Momentum simply has a very light and thin plastic washer between the lug and shell.

While the APS has a functional use with attaching while isolating tom mounts, all the extra APS pieces around the shell are for aesthetics in my honest opinion.

I think having less weight on the Prolite mount does help the shell ring longer. I can also get these drums to not chock when tuned high. Due to the thinness of the vintage shell, hanging weight on the side of mount can choke the drum.
