600 series pedals - thoughts?

Post by Scott_M »

I'm a DW player (have been for coming up on 40 years), but my brief ownership of a Giant Step double really impressed me with some of the engineering ideas - particularly the docking station.

One of the main reasons I passed the Giant step along was the recessed hinge created a pinch point that was uncomfortable for a barefoot, heel-down payer. Since the 600. series uses a different hinge design, I'm considering once of those.

The other issue I had with the Giant Step was the slope of the footboard/heel plate, and it looks like the 600 has that same sloped heel plater design.
I'm a heel-down player and the flat heel plate on the DW's works great for me, as it gives me a "reference point" as far as where my foot is on the pedal. On the Giant Step my foot kept sliding down and off the back of the pedal because I couldn't find that flat "reference" spot to rest my heel.

Is anyone else using a 600 or even a Giant Step that plays heel-down?

If so, how do you deal with this issue, and how long did it take you to adjust to playing on it?

The pedalboard angle is totally adjustable. I have a 600 series for sale, btw. I don't play heel-down or barefoot, so I really can't answer your question. Just forget I was even here.

It's the heel plate angle that's more of a concern for me. How to keep my foot from sliding off...
