(Not so) Cutesy drum crap...

Maybe it's past my bedtime, or maybe I should stop watching the mad drummer's but for whatever reason I feel like ranting about something.

I have lots of real friends on Facebook and also lots of people I don't know in real life. This seems to pertain more to people I know personally. But, from time to time, I get tagged in some sort of video or meme that I don't particularly endorse. I have settings to where I have to approve such tags, and for a reason. I have gotten tagged in videos of Dorothea Taylor before, because someone thought it was cute that she could play the drums. It's not cute at all. She is a highly accomplished drummer of over half a century and she plays rings around me. To find it cute is sexist, and I think it was a female that tagged me in the thing.

Another one is Mr. Bean playing air drums. As good of a sense of humor as I feel I have, I can't stand Mr. Bean and being associated with him playing wit drums albeit in a well choreographed way wasn't something I appreciated. Sometimes, I do appreciate being tagged in videos of child drummers, not for the sake of being tagged, but I have seen some great young drummers I may have missed.

Not really a point to this other than to signal a needed trip to the bed, I reckon. But, I slept half the day so why am I so tired and bitchy?

Can you relate to this, and am I overreacting when people tag me in this stuff?

I don't really do Facebook much anymore...except to sell stuff, lol. At the end of the day, I feel that Social Media is a cancer on society. In and of itself, it's fine...but it's what the "look at me" crowd does with it that turns me off. So I really just don't use it much anymore. Can't stand Instagram, although my drum guru talked me into getting on there a couple of months ago to follow (ironically) Jost Nickel and Carter McClean. But even still, I haven't been on that platform now in over a month.

I'm just not into arrogance or self-promotion--which actually might be to my detriment. But I have over 400 college credits, three college degrees including a doctorate, about 6 or 7 pilot licenses, an aircraft mechanic's license, and have played drums for well over 40 years. Who cares? All that and a dollar will get you a cup of coffer on "dollar coffee Wednesday" at McDonalds. So at this point I really just don't care what people think of me--and feel that I have nothing to prove. So I just don't go in for the "look at me...look at meeee!" crowd either.

So I feel your pain Jules. I definitely smell what you're cooking.

Yes, imagine my surprise when I looked at the notification to see that you'd added me, then saw (at that point) Benny Greb and Carter McClean were the only other accounts you followed... That might be the closest I ever get to living in esteemed company!
