JulesWhen I got my original SQ1 set it was Copper Brown in 20/12/14(f)/16, with matching hoops. I immediately put black Gibraltar hoops on because the band leader/rhythm guitarist was prone to hitting the reso hoop with his amp during set up and I felt that black hoops would be easy to touch up and leave the originals pristine.
My second set was Cruiser Blue with the Walnut hoops, but I also ended up with sone matching hoops and those are on the kit now. TBH, I don't know if there was a reason for putting the blue ones on beyond thinking the Walnut ones would be easier to sell.
The copper brown was my choice, black is all over the place. When I got them, they really were much more appealing in person than in the pictures. With the Cruiser Blue, I just happened to be in the right place at the right time to get a great deal. Wasn't necessarily my first choice, by any means.
Looking at the various shell colors and hoop finishes, they have had serval changes along the way. I wonder why the went to matching hoops. Also, the Green and Red didn't seem to be around long.
The white SQ1s were the latest release, but since DCPs inventory is tied directly to availability from KHS (in addition to DCP's on hand stock), and NOTHING is available, it makes me wonder if all of that is going away. Will be interested to see what happens in the near future!
