Current Phonic Reissue snare throw-off Made in Germany

Post by Jules »

I was digging around on the Sonor site for information about the veneers on the Phonic Reissue snares when I noticed that they still use a German made throw off.

I personally find these throw offs chunky/clunky looking and much prefer the aesthetics of the current ones. They seem to be built to the same quality and I have several of each on hand for comparison. My guess is that they had made scads of these before the 'upgrade' to the current model and relegated them to the Phonic Reissue series. This may explain why this is the only high end snare series NOT to have the dual glide system. I am curious as to how long they will have these on hand and what they will replace them with once depleted.

We have already discussed Hella Hoops still being produced in Germany, and the fact that slotted rods are also produced in Germany by a company located near the Sonor factory. I wonder if there are any other parts either still in production in Germany, and still with heavy enough stock on hand to still be in use on production drums.

Yeah I'm not a fan of these throw offs at all, the Dual Glide is such an upgrade.

I refuse to buy any Designer snare with that throw off but love the first production run still using the Throw Off 1.
