Which dealerships keep the most SQ2s in stock?

And how risky are they with configurations?

Which dealerships keep the most SQ2s in stock?

Post by Jules »

I am thinking of putting together a new video, and want to check out trends with SQ2 configurations with dealers who are keeping things interesting. Who has the best in stock SQ2 offerings?

Old(ish) post, but I would think it's gotta be Shane at DCH. Not sure how many were there during your time up there, but they seem to have a number of them on the website, last I looked. That said, there aren't really all that many of them around that I've seen--and I don't know what Steve Maxwell has in stock across his stores.

I can understand the want/need to get a kit sooner than later but for me, half of the joy from getting an SQ2 is being able to customize. At least, all the ones I’ve seen online didn’t match exactly what I wanted. Will be worth the wait!

I ordered a heavy beech kit from Shane, about 10 years ago. There was a 10 month (or so) wait, and in the meantime an awesome used S Classix kit came up for sale, so I bought that from him as well. Turns out that, at least to my ears, the S Classix kit sounded better than the heavy beech kit! In the end though I ended up selling both kits, and got out of playing for 6-7 years...due to a medical condition. Recently though I've gotten back into it, and was planning to order a 5mm birch-shelled SQ2 kit; at least for the floor toms. The rack toms would likely have been either the 6mm shells, or the heavy ones. But then I found this Vintage series kit, and went all-in on it. They're wonderful--and that's even without being able to play them at full volume yet, because I don't have a drum studio to quite things down in the house. I hope to get that going this winter so that I can stop playing with the Evans dB One heads and cymbals.

But if I were to order another SQ2 kit, it would definitely be birch. The Scandanavian birch is just another animal completely--at least to my ears.
