Great video

So I always found the D500 reissue to be a very odd choice. Here is the write up on that drum from the 1993 Sonor World Beat Magazine.

The reason I found it an odd choice was because the original D500 is pretty rare, and was only offered for a few years in the US.

The 1976 price sheet does not list it.

It makes its first appearance in the 1977 catalog.

It is on the 1978 price sheet

But by 1979, it’s gone for good; till the 93 reissue.

There were so many more D505s made and of course the 6.5 D506 was the ran from the late 70s into the 90s.

The D420 not with standing cause the 420 actually holds the record for the longest production snare from the 50s to the 90s.

So I always found it odd for them to reissue such a rare snare that was only produced for a few years anyway.

To add to THAT - the D 500 reissue was very quickly replaced with the 14x5" Designer. The Designer lacked the center bead in the shell, and had different lugs. All else was the same. But, the Designer didn't have the balls the D 500 reissue had, in my experience. I had both at the same time.
