Travels with Jules...

Post by Jules »

Being the creative procrastinator that I am, a few days ago I was trying to post a few of literally several dozen items for sale. Since seven of these items were of a similar type, instead of making multiple listings for each, I decided to spend half the day making a video about them. Lo and behold... it worked. Someone wanting four snare drum cases reached out, and I agreed to deliver the cases in exchange for a steak dinner.

So, yesterday I was facing a one-and-a-half-hour trip (each way) and left several hours ahead of schedule. I thought I would stop and chat with Randy at Southern Music for a spell in Cordele. That would take up about an hour, maybe. Then, I would possibly go sit and watch trains to burn up a bit more time while still in Cordele. Well, Southern Music closes at 1 PM on Wednesday, so with tears in my eyes, I headed back toward I-75. I was in no sort of hurry, so with the car window rolled down, I really enjoyed the air whipping through where my hair used to be. Getting to Perry (my turn-off point) hours ahead of schedule, I opted to drive on through to Warner Robins and see the Museum of Aviation. Thanks to Siri, I quickly didn't find that and ended up dead in the center of Warner Robins, where I went into a furniture store and reminisced with people I had never met before.

After that, I meandered through the country looking for snakes on dirt roads, but I never found one. They were all paved, and there weren't any snakes to be seen on them, either. As I finally arrived at my destination, my host already had the grill warmed and was about to put Striplings steaks on to cook. They cooked up great and juicy, and I ended up taking about half my meal to go and have been enjoying it today.

My new friend recommended a Mexican grocery store about 1.5 miles from my house, and today I went there and got the al pastor meat that he recommended. I never knew Al, but I got a pound of 'im and will be cooking that with some fresh, locally grown onions.

While shopping, I got a big bottle of Mexican Coca-Cola. They use real sugar instead of the processed garbage. I find it quite ironic that the Coca-Cola Company is based in my home state, and yet the best version of their signature drink is imported. Of course, the real original formula had cocaine instead of caffeine for the stimulant, but you can't get that in the States anymore, either. If anyone sees any Cokes imported from Colombia, I am a buyer. But seriously, this is one of the favorite times of the year, along with any other time of the year not requiring a coat or something to wipe away the sweat. Life is about as good as you want it to be if you focus on the right things. :)

Thanks for coming!
