Highly Praised Sonor Gear That Never Clicked for You

šŸŽÆ What’s a Sonor Release That Missed the Mark? 🄁

Every company with a long history has huge wins… and a few ideas that didn’t quite land the way they hoped.

Sonor has built some of the most respected drums in the world — but not every product, series, or concept became a classic.

So let’s talk about it (respectfully and thoughtfully):

What’s a Sonor release that, in your opinion, missed the mark?

Maybe it was:

  • A shell design that didn’t catch on

  • A hardware concept that felt overcomplicated

  • A finish or aesthetic that didn’t resonate

  • A series that disappeared quickly

  • A price-to-value mismatch

  • An innovation that sounded great on paper but didn’t translate in the real world

Was the issue:
tone?
weight?
features?
marketing?
timing in the market?

Or was it actually a good idea that just arrived at the wrong moment?

This isn’t about bashing — it’s about looking at Sonor’s history and discussing the experiments that didn’t become long-term successes.

Sometimes the ā€œmissesā€ are just as interesting as the hits.

From everything I’ve seen about them and finally owning a snare, can’t understand why The ProLite series was limited in the US and eventually discontinued. Great selection of finishes, hardware and sizes. Just seems like a short lived run.

My thinking is that it might have been because you could get the same shell and hardware but with more finish and size options through the SQ2 series for not much more. One of those unintended "products that are too similar" issues..?

I could see that being a factor. When first released, were they easier to get than waiting for a custom build? I guess Momentum will now fill that gap of wanting something right away vs waiting 10 months.
