Spec your “one snare for everything” if the configurator had NO LIMITS.

Imagine the SQ2 configurator let you spec EVERYTHING in a snare build:

• Shell type: wood or metal

• Throw-off systems: past or present

• Hoop choices: triple-flange / die-cast / wood

• Bearing edges: any profile

• Lugs, vents, strainer position, snare beds… all of it

What would your ideal design look like?

Are you inventing something brand new, or refining a snare you already own that’s close to perfect?

14 x 6" Seamless Brass finished with the high quality of chrome plating that the D505 and 506 were known for, then add black-beauty color chrome SQ2 mallets for its badge.

Triple flanged hoops with a reproduction of the snare strainer that was supplied with the D505 in the early 1980's (simple and effective throw-off it came with a fine tuning adjustment on the butt-end.) Use square head tuning rods and dual post lugs found on SQ2 snares. 20 steel strand Sonor factory made wires.

This is tough... I have a pile of snares specifically because I value the differences they have and what strengths each construction offers, so specifying just one for everything is hard...

But, I think I'd go a thinnish (1.2-1.5mm) seamless, spun bronze shell, give it an aged nickel plating finish (not black nickel, normal, but aged), the parallel action throw from the Signature Series with bronze wires, Signature Series lugs but with Tunesafe and no gaskets, Hella hoops, slotted rods. Vintage Series style Sonor script logo and current SQ2 mallets, both in ruthenium. Size: 14x6.5
