Highly Impressed

4 decade player here that has played about everything on the planet in multiple genres and acoustic environments. I snagged one of the Kompressor 14x6 beech snare drums on special (DCP black Friday sale) and have to sing it's praise.

There is something about that heavy beech shell that just works wonders in snare drums. Somehow it does actually generate a fullness and resonance of sound (at 8mm wow that's impressive), but with a WICKED CRACK TO IT! Much more sensitive than you would imagine and has a very wide tuning range. I am highly impressed with this snare and am a tough critic. Online videos with a 'two dimensional' sound do not do this drum justice. Highly recommended.

Are you a fan of Hella hoops and if so, do you have plans of trying Hellas on it?

No, I had those on my medium maple snare and they were overkill. I have the standard triple flanged on both Prolite and SQ2 birch kits all around, and the triple flanged on all Sonor snare drums. I know some people love the die casts however.

I want these instruments wide open. Even with the triple flanged on the Kompressor beech snare there is no nasty over ring or anything. The undersized shells and the accompanying tympanic response is simply divine.
