It's B. Less than a $1,200 USD difference to get the Sonor flagship line made in Germany.

What do I get? 😂

SQ2 are not that bad in price if you don‘t go for the pricey veneers inside and outside.

I owned a set of the old and new recording custom drums. The build quality on the new ones set a really high bar for drum manufacturing. There was no flaws in manufacturing and had the best bearing edges I have ever seen. They sound fantastic and I played that kit for 7 years as my main gigging kit. I sold them for a brand new prolite kit. I miss those Chinese made recording customs kits. They are well worth the money and the finishes are beautiful.

They were made in China? I thought the old ones were made in Japan? In fact I think I remember seeing that on the badges...although it's been 20+ years since I had a set.

There have been Japanese, English and Chinese made Recording Customs. The English era was when Yamaha owner Premier and they were being made there from memory.

OK, the Chinese-made era must have been after I sold all my RC shells.

I bought my first set of Recording Custom shells in the winter of 1991/92, and then added a BUNCH more of those shells in 1996 during the "Great Yamaha Blowout" sale of their pre-YESS drums. Just found a video last week that showed a 6-piece kit set up in my drum room at the time, with two stacks of RC shells in boxesb stacked nearly to the ceiling. But all of those shells were made in Japan, I'm pretty certain. But by 2001/2002, I had sold all those shells--and must have missed the Chinese-made stuff.

Yeah the English era was mid-late 90's I think - coincided with an awful lot of vaguely similar look Premier stuff. Cymbal stands for instance might as well have been the same thing.
