When I started acquiring gear again a couple of months ago, I bought a DW hi-hat stand and a single DW5000 Accelerator kick pedal. The kick pedal feels "heavy" to me, in terms of the footboard. I've adjusted it 18 ways from Tuesday, but it still feels weird. So just before my surgery I bought a Pearl Eliminator pedal--which (now that I think about) is what I had been playing 6-7 years ago when I gave it. up. It's still in the box though due to the recent surgery, and likely will be there for another month at least while I recover. Once I get going again though I will test it out--and likely sell the DW kick pedal I suppose.

All my other hardware is DW as they make wonderful hardware, and I've been using their stuff since the 1980s. But I've also used Yamaha and Pearl as well. All of these companies make excellent stuff these days, or they wouldn't still be in business. But it takes time to get your rig dialed-in again, once you get away from it for a while.

Recently when I was talking to Steve Smith (I don't remember if this made it into the interview or not), he mentioned how heavy the 5000 Series footboard is now. May wanna try a Perfect Balance Pedal if you can borrow one. Steve likes, those, too.

Acquiring new Sonor rig in 2026.

He did mention it in the interview, and I fully agree with him! The Pearl Eliminator pedals always had a lighter foot board, in my experience...so that's what I went back to. People also say the Tama Speed King are nice and light--but I would try that DW pedal Steve mentioned as well. I've seen them in a DW "factory tour" video that Don Lombardi gave to Leland Sklar (I think it was), and they look interesting. So that might be worth a try if the Pearl pedal doesn't work out.
