When I was buying and selling Sonor parts years ago, and even recently, the Snap-Locks are something that seem to be in high demand. Unfortunately, they are not something I have ever had available, separately. In trying to find both a viable replacement, and potentially as a way to generate some mild revenue, I sought out an ideal replacement. Here is what I tried...
It almost worked! So, I bought more of them in various id/od and thicknesses. Ironically, the first ones I bought turned out to work the best. And they work-a little. They do offer some resistance that MAY help with detuning if your snap-locks are missing, BUT, they don't grab good enough to market. Plus, when you look at the purchase price in Amazon, even if I bought enough that they were almost free, the postage on anything that isn't a flat envelope is cost prohibitive.
The reason this doesn't work well is that the notches were carved in the lugs to work with a flattened, thin wire. Even with thinner O-Rings, there is just not enough contact with the tension rods to create a substantial about of friction. All that explained, there is probably an additional hack, such as putting some sort of piece of metal in between the lug and the O Ring to increase the pressure and create a better surface to hug up to the tension rod. That's worth looking into for someone in need of a remedy.
But, for a guy looking to market some helpful products, if you can't keep it simple, it isn't viable.
