Sonor Teardrop Throw Off Repair Help

Post by Frank Godiva »

Someone over at dfo needs some help

So good news - I found a Sonor Teardrop Throw off.
Bad news - it needs some repair.
I've included a photo of my throw, and a helpful photo from ST Drums. As you can see, the mounting "bolts" are mangled and have been cut too short to fit through the shell.

What's the best way of repairing this? A few ideas I had were to grind off the existing stumps and either JB weld new threaded rod or a rounded coupling nut to accept a smaller bolt from the inside of the shell.

Thoughts?

Not sure about the JB weld with that sort of sharp pressure, but maybe. ST Drums had a similar issue and Jonas cut the posts off, drilled and tapped to screw bolts in from inside the shell.

Thanks for coming!

This would have been along the ideas I had:
Cut off the mangled posts, drill out and tap the holes, then run some threaded rod into them and trim to correct length.

That would be the closest to a proper restoration I could think to do.

Sq2 - Med Beech, Rosewood finish - 10/12/14/16/18/22 + 6.5x14
Performer - Wine Red, 12/13/16/22 + 6.5x14 (D456)
Phonic - Oak, 13/14/16/22
