Bad first impressions of gear; did you ever get over it?

Post by Jules »

Have you ever been so turned off by a brand or piece of gear, that the bad taste never left your mouth?

The first PDP stuff I aver saw was traded in at my drums shop 20 something years ago. It was one of those deals where I let them make an offer I couldn't refuse, and the numbers worked even though I literally threw away most of the gear they traded in. Rods were cross threaded in the lugs and everything was so cheap and junky I never have taken PDP seriously. I am sure they are far better than my single experience, but I don't care at all. I have enough brands to think about I don't even need another brand too gawk over.

A local music store had some Gibraltar stands on display decades ago and the display was so unappealing that it was a total turnoff. Other than the rack I had for my live at home Alesis set, I never wanted anything else from them.

Have you had any similar experiences?

Duallist pedal - when it first came out it looked very gimmicky, and the all plastic/composite construction made it look cheap to me (the playing feel doesn't help that impression any either). To this day, I still can't look at one and take it seriously...
