Rosewood Champion snare

Post by Frank Godiva »

This snare is owned by Aaron Latos

It’s the only one I’ve ever seen and it’s not listed in any of the catalogs that I’m aware so I don’t even know what model it is. It’s also rosewood veneered inside and out like a Teardrop D471 and sounds like the same shell from the owners description.

Any additional info appreciated

From the owner - “Found a 5x14 rosewood in/out champion snare on tour in Europe in 2014 and that got me excited about Sonor. Rumor mill is that some rosewood champions have a slightly thinner shell. I have a rosewood champion snare that is super thin, but I've never measured it more side by side of it with a regular production champion. 5x14 rosewood in/out Sonor Champion (same 6 ply shell as the original rosewood teardrops with 30 degree edges) it's a little thinner than regular teardrops. And neither here nor there but no Sonor nerd I've talked to has ever seen or heard of another rosewood Champion snare, oddly) and it's one of my favorite wood snares I've ever played.
