2 Years Ago Today... AQ1 And Kompressor

Post by Jules »

Two years ago I had not long been back from a short stint in New Hampshire and this is what I went with for a drum set, briefly. I would soon add a second floor tom, as well.

How was the tone on that kit? I’ve of course seen video examples but always hard to get the true representation in that format.

SQ2 Heavy Beech African Marble 10x8, 12x8, 16x16, 22x16, 14x5.5
AQ2 Stage Titanium Quartz
14x6 ProLite Snow Tiger
14x6.5 Brass Kompressor

It was a really really good sounding kit. The bass drum was a cannon. I never played the AQ1 snare that came with it, I bought the Kompressor at the same time and never used that snare, but I am sure it was fine, too. I had an AQX that I gigged with a few years ago, so no reason to expect less from the AQ1 snare.

Not a fan of the thinner tom hoops, hence the upgrade. Also thin was the white lacquer. Instead of being a pure white finish, hues caused by the grain were evident. I am not knocking it, it is what it is and at any distance it wasn't noticeable. All in all, it was a rocking kit for the money.

Thanks for coming!

I get what you’re saying about the thinner tom hoops but like you said, none of that really takes away from the fact that it’s a rocking kit for the money. Sonor really nailed the value proposition on that line.

I actually really like my AQ2 and I’m still kind of surprised by how good it sounds for the price. The toms sing and kick especially holds its own. Overall it just feels solid and musical.
