Secret piece of gear... I MISSED It.

Post by Jules »

I had some items in my Thomann cart for a day or two and was waiting to sell the Artist Bronze. I had a deal fall through yesterday because the fellow couldn't get the credit union to cooperate on a wire transfer and he was not comfortable/familiar with VenMo, et al.

The Bronze sold on Reverb last night and today I went to make sure Thomann would ship my item in unopened factory packaging, and I see THIS:

What a disappointment, and I ALMOST went ahead and ordered it yesterday despite being low on funds at the time.

This would have been a great drum to start off the new rig. I really liked my G4160 from several years ago, and THIS is what the Phil Rudd snare SHOULD have been.

Oh, well. Maybe it was a sign that there are other things worth waiting for. ;)

Would you have had to pay tariffs on that?

Yeah, but the drum was such a good price that I was willing to take the hit.

I was thinking the same, even though I'm not generally a fan of brass shelled drums.

Held off because I had no way of even estimating what the tariffs would have added to the price :(

My favorite snare having been a Brass ProLite and this having the Hella hoops, too, I was going to chance the tariffs!!! Especially at that price!! Even if the tariffs were 70%, it still would be cheaper than the Brass Prolite are in the US.

I had a 90's 6x14 brass SY1406 Signature/Symphony with Hellas that did everything from Jazz to Phil Rudd really well. I got it on Ebay in the early 2000's NOS from Germany for $399! List price was $1270. It had a thicker shell than the Prolite and I had Steve Smith autograph the inside of the shell at a clinic. I thinned the heard and sold it about 4 years ago.

Any idea on what the tariffs/taxes would have been?

Clueless

That's what stopped me from ordering one months ago. Well plus the fact that I already have a brass prolite 14x5 with hella hoops already

If I still have a brass Prolite, the COB would have been of no interest, but since I presently don't have a Sonor snare drum that's not in the queue to sell, the COB was certainly on my radar.
