Bass Drum Pedals: What is your brand of choice?

Post by Jules »

May be an interesting Poll considering my speculation that Sonor may be revamping their pedals and hardware.

When I started playing again a few months ago, I ordered a DW5000 (dual-chain) accelerator model. Then I started playing it and remembered that I gave them up 10 years ago, in favor of the Pearl eliminator. LOL!

Anybody want to buy a "gently" used DW5000?

Sheesh...what a moron I am.

Been using the Jojo pedal for the last 12 years or so. I'm moulded to it at this point. It's an early issue one, coming out in 2012. Rock solid since day one.

I have a 20 year old Pearl Eliminator double pedal and broke the slider bracket on the primary beater. It took about 3 months to get replacement part. Needed a replacement sooner than that, so to try something different, got a DW5000. Been regularly using that since. I do like both a lot but prefer the feel of the DW. Pearl will be great as a backup.

I've been a Tama BD pedal player since '79 and have used a middle pedal exclusively for a little over 20 years. It's so much more ergonomic than a regular double pedal. I use just the right side on non-double bass gigs. I got the idea from the Giant Step Middle pedal and realized I could build one with 1st generation Tama Iron Cobra parts. I found a reasonably priced used GS middle pedal about 15 years ago and it was smooth, but I preferred the Tama feel and sold it. I currently have two that I built from more recent Iron Cobras with round cams modified for nylon straps. One is for home and one for gigging.

I am a Yamaha FP9 fanboy, specifically the direct drive.

I tried DW 3000/5000/9000, Tama Speed Cobra and Iron Cobra, Pearl Redlines, Sonor Phonic and Signature, Sono Jojo, Ludwig Speedking and even a Premier 252. None of them came close.

You are not along in this opinion - will need to check one of these out.
