It's an interesting exercise listening to all the comments, both here and elsewhere. There's a lot of knocking of some of the decisions, and the name, as well as a lot of comments about not understanding what makes Sonor drums what they are. Hand in hand with that, some finger pointing at the young team at Sonor.

I understand all of these comments, but at the same time, wonder whether 'we' as the bunch of grumpy old blokes we are, are not the main target market. By that I mean, we're all programmed to be looking backwards at all the historic amazing kits, rather than forwards at what they can be doing in the future. The only flaw in that theory I can see is that it generally takes being old to afford these kits!

I've personally been looking at these kits through a different lens - imagine you'd never seen Vintage Series, Prolite or SQ1 and then saw these? They're still German made, they're the best of SQ2 and the most popular choices of SQ2, and they give you a way to mix woods within one kit in a way no one else does outside of full custom kits. And there is NO way at all that they can sound bad. When you look at it like that, these things are epic!

But especially in north america grumpy old blokes (with money) is who Sonor are relying on for sales. 15/25 year olds arnt being swung into buying a sonor set with a cardboard cutout of todd/steve or jack.Or being told a set is made in germany. DW. tama and pearl are snapping up the young drummers who sell kits to the kids. Every area of life seems to have so many more companies that when i was young trying to get a slice of the pie I dont know how they all stay solvent!

One thing I have not seen yet is a DTC drum company (direct to consumer) its happen in the surf/wetsuit and bicycle industry that i've been part of,
Example: the drum brand isn't in stores, it just bought through a website ,ships direct from a wearhouse and cutting out the middleman a $1000 set is now $650.
I used to have people coming into the surfshop i worked in asking for a certain DTC brand because it was cheap and good. The customer did not understand it was cheap because they were cutting me out!

I think this is pretty accurate--and maybe this is why Sonor went with the three-wood line with Momentum? Give the people who still seem to care about the choice of wood type(s) what they want, while making the process of building drums easier (ie; more stream-lined) to better manager their labor and materials resources.

I believe they misspoke. Why would they think SQ2 is not the flagship?

Which sentence are you hearing where he says it is the new flagship and has missspoken? I've watched it several times and dont hear anything saying that.

FYI guys... I heard back from Todd Sucherman in a Facebook thread--the shells in the Momentum kit he used this past weekend were indeed beech.
