What heads should I use? 😱🥦🙌🏻
Hey All! I’ve got two vintage series kits. I’ve had them for about six years now. I’m wanting to change the heads and move across to Evan’s just for a change. Has anyone had any experience with the UV1’s on Snare and Toms?
Not me - Remo fanboy for Vintage Series
For me, it is simply either Remo Coated Ambassadors or Clears. They sound so perfect with these heads that I won't even try anything else.

I think that I only tried Remo on the kit that I had too. I've had some great results though with both Evans and Aquarian heads on my 70's Phonics. So much so that I would recommend trying them. I tend towards single ply clear or coated so I'm talking G1's and Classics. That being said, Remo remain my first choice overall.
I was just mentioning this at another forum, but I'm not fan of Evans anymore. Ever since they came out with their "360" heads. I can't put my finger on what's changed, but they just don't sound the same anymore.CornishDrummer wrote: Sat Apr 19, 2025 4:50 pm Hey All! I’ve got two vintage series kits. Remo has almost always been good to me (except when they started the pie heads, but they've gotten past that now) and Aquarian has always been a good head.
I used to use Ludwig Weathermaster and Attack! heads, too, but Weathermaster is gone now (except the snare batters, but they're made by Remo now, so I don't know if its the same) and I've never seen any Attack! heads to try, since they came back. The old ones were kinda heavy but they were a surprisingly decent head.
Anyway, so my suggestion is always going to be either Remo or Aquarian. Hopefully you have better luck than I with the Evans heads.

I'm finding clear ambassador bottom
Clear or coated ambassador tops
Get the best tone and feel out of these drums!
I've tried everything else. They all sound great but,
The best is what I listed
