SQ1 inspired by Chris Coleman...

I saw a video back in 2017 of Chris Coleman playing SQ1's and even though I was playing Ludwig (a blip on the screen in hindsight) I was really drawn to his sound. So here it is! SQ1's with his choice of heads! And YES I have caught hell for using such muffled heads. Tama hardware in the video, but it is long gone now and it's Sonor all the way now! And my trusty ProLite snare (number 2) as well!

I came by my SQ1 in an odd way. I was on Drumeo participating in a live class with Steve Smith. They were giving away an SQ1 snare and signed drumhead by Steve. I WON!!! So now I have a gold 14x5 snare that projects louder than my Sonor Force 3007 kit and just does not go with anything else I have...what to do? Well, I might as well get the rest of the kit!!! LOL So I hunted down a gold SQ1 kit 20/8/12/14 and now the snare fits in perfectly. I have further special ordered a 10 and 16 floor tom to round out the kit. That gold is hard to track down!!! Needless to say, I finally have a complete German-made Sonor!!! Yes kids, there is definitely something special about the SQ1 and that Birch shell!!! Not sure if I will go down the road of an SQ2, but if I did it would be the heavy beech with a birch outer-ply.

Nice win! Nice rig. I am glad you were able to move up to the SQ1. The higher up the line you get, there more magic there is.

Without wanting to ask sacrilegious questions, I've always been very keen to know how Sonor birch stacks up against Yamaha birch. I have a late 80's Yamaha Recording Custom and it's great, but every time I look at it I can't help but wonder if I sat a Sonor Lite next to it, which would I prefer?

And the same goes for the current stuff, a current Recording Custom vs an SQ1 - I would love to know
