Steve Smith Interview - His 48 years with Sonor. The gear; the relationship, past and future.

Just a few years from the 50 year mark as a Sonor Artist

An acclaimed American drummer best known for his work with Journey and the jazz fusion group Vital Information. Steve Smith is widely regarded for his exceptional technical control, stylistic versatility, and deep musicality across both rock and jazz contexts.
He has long been associated with Sonor drums, particularly during and after his time with Journey, helping bring global visibility to the brand through arena tours and high-profile recordings. His playing highlights Sonor’s clarity, articulation, and dynamic range, especially in complex musical settings where precision and expression are equally essential.

This was a GREAT interview Jules! I commented as such in the discussion on the video, but I'm "bluehornet" there (courtesy of Google) so it might not be obvious. But I can't tell you how many hundreds of hours I spent in the 1980s, trying to cop this guy's grooves. He's basically the reason I got turned on to Sonor as a brand--and it was great to hear the history he gave of the years he's been associated with them.
