My First Sonor Drum Set

Post by Jeremy Bender »

Sonor Infinite Birch in Black Onyx with a Prolite Brass 14x6" snare drum.
The Birch shells were magnificent they spoke with clarity and punch at all dynamic levels. The brass drum was really nice and I thought an ideal size thought I did change out the die-cast hoops for Sonor's triple flange to open the drum up a bit.
The mounting hardware kinda drove me nuts as I couldn't always get the toms to stay in the exact position I wanted using the 400 series hardware but the quality was top-notch.

Unfortunately I no longer own this beautiful kit, I had to sell off some gear a couple years ago for financial reasons.

If I ever get an SQ2 kit someday I'll order it with a bass drum mounted tom holder and some lightweight cymbal stands.

Great looking rig! How did you like the sound compared to Sonor gear you have owned since? Someone was asking my opinion on the Infinite Birch yesterday. I have sent him a link to this. Would you mind elaborating on this?

The Birch Infinite were top quality drums (in my limited exposure to world class instruments). They were offered in the more traditional sizes I was used to 10x8/12x9/14x14/16x16. One thing I wish they had changed was the 22" bass drum I didn't care for the 18" depth as it was a bit of a beast to move around. If it was going to always be in one place it was a low end punch drum. I considered having mine professionally cut down to a 15" depth but the cost and shipping would've been too much to be practical.

The kit sounded great, clean articulate and punchy esp. with clear heads. That series was limited to three color choices, I liked the black the best as I thought it blended in best visually. It was one of two kits I owned (I kept the Yamaha's) - please don't ban me! lol

Like I've mentioned before, in the future I'd love to get an SQ2 kit if finances allow since ProLites seem to be a rarity in the states. SO many choices...
