Sonor Kompressor Snares - 2 year old video...

Post by Jules »

I got a killer deal a while back on a Kompressor from a company going out of business. It was sold as a demo, but came in unopened. For the price, I had ordered it to rob for parts, and did. I had several project snares around here at the time. Ultimately, I put it back original (after putting Hellas and a Dual Glide throw on it), and still use it live at church. It's the 6.5 Steel and it sounds great. So good, in fact, that I haven't felt the urgency to press the Artist Bronze into service!

Do you have a Kompressor and want to tell us about it?

Current gear: Waiting on the next releases... ;)

I have the 14x8 aluminium. I don't recall many other 14x8 alu snares anywhere - I'm sure there are some but this one being a modest price and Sonor made kinda sealed the deal. I've found it a bit room specific, in one room it sounded like everything a Supraphonic wished it was, in another I wasn't so much a fan.

I do think the snare wires on them are garbage and every Kompressor could benefit from an upgrade. I fitted some lightly used Bibins on mine and they're wonderful.

I would absolutely love to sit one of the shallower Alu snares up against the Supraphonic, and would very much love to do a side by side with the 6.5 black nickel over brass and my 6.5 Black Beauty - to see how close they really are. But they're order in only in New Zealand, so a looooong wait, and expense just to try that out.

It's disappointing how disconnected you are to the mainstream retail world. I once put all the Kompressors in my Sweewater cart when they had 48 months interest free. I didn't complete the purchase, but I came really close!
