Prepping for the weekend, setting up the new Artist Bronze and changing heads...

Post by Jules »

I think I will do a rig rundown this week once all of my stuff is updated. I know that there will be minimal interest in my gear, but maybe someone will want to see it.

I am going with G1 batter, replacing the quite dead (by nature) EC2s. I am breaking out the Artist Bronze, finally, and will be putting an EC1 reverse dot on it. It's not necessarily going to be my go to head, but I am profoundly experienced with this head on ProLite brass snare drums and that will give me a good perspective on how much different this snare sounds that the Brass. And really, it s probably going to be a good thing not to have it TOO open in the church. I enjoy the physical work of playing and don't want to have to play too softly on account of a very LOUD snare drum.

All in all, I am happy with the rig. I would like to change out some hardware stuff, but the Basic Arm System components are rarely in stock, and seemingly never in stock at the same time. Ultimately, I want to rotate the 4000 series stuff from the rig and have all 600. The snare, hihat, bass drum pedal and DCS are 600, already. I have a 4000 MBS and DCS. I have a gripe with the DCS's (4000 and 600) and will comment on them in my video.

The EC1 Reverse Dot has been an excellent head on several snare drums of mine over the years. Not digging it on the Artist Bronze. Still have some experimenting to do!

The Kompressor is a great drum! But, the Bronze is in another league altogether. It has a very crisp, tight sound. I had rehearsal for a Praise Gathering last night and a guy I didn't know and that knew nothing about my rig commented on the snare drum sound and how that is what a snare drum should sound like. I was less than thrilled with the EC1 head on it before rehearsal, but once I got into the swing of things and everyone was playing, the drum sounded great. I mayo with a coated Ambassador and see how that works out. I'll keep you posted.

I found that a regular Ambassador or the CS works best for me on my Sonor Bronze. But I‘m someone who really likes overtones. In my opinion those are the character of the snare.
