New Sonor stuff... what are you hoping or expecting?

Unread post by Jules »

Well, let's put together the few pieces we have of this puzzle.

Here are some facts that I can bring to the table:

In December of 2023, a friend of mine who is on the Sonor roster was getting all new gear and asked for a ProLite brass snare with Hellas. He was told that "they" were being phased out. At the time, ProLite snares were already the only thing in the ProLite series that was coming to the US and KHS didn't have one to send him, so he ended up with a Kompressor. As to what the "they" were that was being phased out, I don't have that information. They could have meant that particular model, or brass or the entireProLite line altogether. It would be speculation to assume, but nearly 2 years later you can still find these snares available brand ne from authorized dealers. I would highly recommend snagging one now, if you want one, just to be safe.

A couple of months ago when I interviewed Jost Nickel, he alluded to a new product but couldn't get specific. His comment is about 21:51

And NOW, we have two recent posts from SonorDrumCompany:

The badge is NOT the 150th badge. Also, the mallets look gold, to me. My take: we have a new line coming. I don't have official information, yet, though.

So, what else is happening at UK Drum show?

I don't know! But, here are things that I am pretty sure will be forthcoming sooner or later, but idon'thave any firm word on. (Note: if I had official or even "off the record" information, I wouldn't be putting it out there.

New Hardware
New Pedals/Hi Hat
New Signature (Artist specific) snare drums
I have let it slip my mind what else I think they are up to, but will reply when things come to mind.

What I DO know:
Sonor has a young and energetic team of people creating and engineering things that will keep the product line fresh and exciting. Leading this effort is a man that has a full understanding of past Sonor products and I can't wait to see what is upcoming for the brand.

If you have any rumors, speculation, hopes or whatever for upcoming products, let us all hear them.

Current gear: Waiting on the next releases... ;)

These are on SQ1s. I am not aware of them on the SQ2s. But, apparently they are about to become obsolete

Current gear: Waiting on the next releases... ;)

I seem to remember early runs of the SQ1 having those rubber bits on the mount creating a black stain on the drums. They did fix that as I recall.

Bring back the Phonics on the 50 year anniversary

If they're hitting SQ1 and Prolite might as well be done and dusted, surely they're replacing both.

What happens if you take SQ2 thinking (any wood) and apply it to Prolite drums? Call it something new, but get a Prolite spec kit in a range of sizes and finishes, but you can choose birch, beech or maple as the shell?

My dealer told me that I made the right choice with buying the SQ1, whatever that means regarding the news. He can‘t tell me what‘s coming, but told me it should not bother me.
