With the ProLites totally wiped out of the US market, that leaves the 2 upper end catalog series that have at least several ties to days past. The Vintage series is in about every way a throwback by design.
The SQ1's sport (and sport is a proper word) classic car colors dating back to the 50's or before. Additionally, the reso bass drum heads come with the long abandoned smaller and offset logo. I always liked that logo placement and welcomed it back.
I suppose the ProLite was the last of the totally modern looking catalog series; but then they have Vintage Maple Shells. With the ProLite well out of the US catalogs, ProLite metal shelled snare drums being phased out based on information I was given nearly 2 years ago, 10 years of Vintage Production and 8 years of SQ1 production, it would seem that maybe time has come for something new. Maybe between the UK Drum show and NAMM we will see something new come down the pike.
Though the Vintage Series is older than SQ1, the Vintage Series is still very strong and nearly every Sonor Artist I have talked to or interviewed owns and gigs/tours with them. Not really sure that SQ1 has enjoyed the same sales momentum as of recent years. Time will tell what they are up to. If they come out with something new and exciting, I may know where you can get a mint condition Vintage Series set in Teak 13/16/18/22!!!
We shall see!!!
