Drummer frustrations...

Post by Jules »

I am thinking of having a segment in Coffee With Jules soon where I discuss things that drummers deal with that can be aggravating or just generally make you feel unappreciated. Here is the start to the list:

Try to make you cram your rig into a corner where there would be no way in an out.

"Let's move the drums to right about 6 inches" (in a "It's no big deal, just a few inches" tone of voice) And, with or without the "just pull the rug" over suggestion.

Can you "tone it down a little bit"? I personally despise the phrase "Tone it down", and would prefer: "You're too loud, you asshole".

"We don't have the budget to pay you for this" (I will likely talk more about the full details of this in the video, I am sincerely trying to let this matter go, but I am struggling"

First one in and last one out and no one offers to help you load gear.

You don't need drums - we have a decent kit. (The ubiquitous trashed drum rig scenario)

Bring sticks of various volumes - ie: you will have other musicians in close quarters and their comfort is more important than you being heard out front.

Singer with a Tambourine

Terrible mix/acoustics

Keyboard/piano players that have no sense of time

I will add more as I think of them. PLEASE add anything you can think of.

Thanks for coming!
