Sonor 3ply Teardrop kit for sale

Post by jacebart »

Here's a great set of vintage Sonor 3ply drums from the 60s. I'm not a drum historian so there's probably lots of info you smart Sonor people have that I don't. Here's what I can say: 3ply all around. Modern heads fit fine. All original hoops, lugs and legs. As you can see, the chrome is especially good for its age. I've had many Sonor vintage Teardrop kits and the chrome is by far the best on this particular kit The wrap looks great, as you can see, but is not perfect. There's one spot on the 16 that needs a little glue. Easy fix if you're inclined. the bass looks great and the 13 is practically perfect. I use a snare stand for the 13 but I'm looking for the tom arm and will include it if I find it. I will include a bass drum anchor. I spent a bunch of money re-heading them. Coated Ambassadors top and bottom and Powerstroke on bass drum batter. I will include a soft case for the 13 as well as the 16. All mufflers function although they are a little tight.

$ 1550 shipped east of the o'l Miss and 1500 on the West Coast. Two boxes with the 13 in the bass drum. Zelle and Venmo or PayPal with added fee.

Welcome aboard

The 3ply kits are the quintessential “near field” drums. They are not gonna project like phonics, but that was not the point with these. This is what Klook used when he was a Sonor endorser.

Originally, these kits all sold with factory calf top heads and Mylar resos. I’ve got a red sparkle 3 ply that’s gonna get Kentville kangaroo heads one of these days.

Sonor doesn’t make anything like this today and neither do many other manufacturers. Some of the thinnest shells I’ve ever seen or played. These kits have that warm tone for jazzers.

It's still pretty new. Frank has done a lot to get wind in the sails. I hope you will recommend it to your Sonor friends.

Yes! Sonor are some of the very best! I've had 3 and 6ply Drops and I currently have a Sonor Vintage Series and they are all, always, stellar instruments.

I encourage you to make a post about your gear. You can make a separate post about each kit you have, if you like. I will set up a sub-category just for you. Post here: viewforum.php?f=189
