Buyer beware... (undisclosed details) Is it honest?

Here is one example of things that piss me off when people sell Sonor gear. Thisnguy is selling this snare drum and for what I think would be a fair price IF the drum was original. But, it isn't.

Screenshot 2026-02-05 at 8.49.44 AM.png

The original die cast ruthenium hoops have been replaced with chrome triple flange hoops from an Asian Sonor. German Sonor snares don't have stickers on the hoops. And, German snare side hoops are 2.0mm thick (sic) whereas the Asian ones are 2.3mm. I don't know what differences, if any, there would be between the batter side hoops other than the stickers, BUT I am rather confident that Sonor Germany is really fussy about the plating, so there COULD be a difference there. I am going to do a deep dive into this, later.

At any rate; Someone that doesn't know to look for something like this may not realize what a huge downgrade the hoops are and that line "you will not be disappointed" will be in vein.

Another thing is when people like all the series that a part could fit on as if it was specific to all of those series. Recent example: A older style tom mount without the notch for the memory lock and with the wrong wing screw for Signature, but it was listed as Signature (among everything else it would fit). Hopefully someone with a Signature drum needing such a part would know the difference, but maybe not.

Am I being nit picky? Why not just full disclosure instead of cutting corners and hoping for the best?

2 possibilities that I see:

  • The seller bought it that way and genuinely doesn't know any better.

  • The seller is less concerned about accuracy and just wants to get as much out of the sale as they can...

Agreed. But, there again, if the first guess is correct that’s still an example of someone not being informed of what they were getting and is a clear example of the very thing I am complaining about.

I deliberately didn’t include seller information in the photo for the very reason that it may be something he isn’t directly responsible for or aware of.

Pretty sad, either way. Most expensive snare Sonor builds and someone severely devalued it with cheap hoops that don’t even match.

I messaged the seller a few weeks ago pointing out the incorrect hoops. Did not hear back.

I did too earlier. No response yet, but it hasn't been long.

The one I find often is how bad stores are at getting info incorrect when selling used Sonor items.

The most recent was a German Drum shop selling a Phonic set on behalf of a customer that was advertised as having maple shells.
