Todd Sucherman's new crashes!!!

Post by Jules »

In case you missed it, I sat down and talked to Todd Sunday and one of the topics of conversation was the new line of cymbals...

Here is a recent clip with those cymbals...

Personally, I am very excited. For some time now, I have favored larger, thinner cymbals for the same reason Todd discusses. Presently I have two 19's and a 16 and the 16 really sounds splashy, or as Todd described it, "Wispy". I have played Sabian on and off for about 37 years and was the first "Sabian Switcher" in my circle in '87 or '88.

Presently, I am playing Paiste Signatures which have been in and out of rotation on my set since '98. I haven't owned the same cymbals, I am referring to buying, and then buying again, later. I have owned 5 sets of Dark Crisp Hi Hats over the years! :) :(

So... Having certain things I like to hear from my crashes, and knowing that the Sessions ride (I have owned and sold one of those, too) are perfect; I really anticipate that one of the new sets will really appeal to me.

Are you all set on cymbals, or do you find yourself intrigued/tempted?

I am pretty intrigued by these. I currently have a set of cymbals at opposite ends of the spectrum - a full set of Meinl Foundry Reserves and an almost full set of Paiste 602s. Obviously incredibly dark and incredibly sparkly. In the middle I have a mixed bag of wonderful stuff, but I don't have a set of straight down the middle crashes that are similar enough to work as a set.

Obviously the options are Zildjian Ks, Istanbul or Meinl Traditionals etc. but I do have one of Todd's Session rides and it's wonderful (apart from the raw bell which rubs off on sticks and then transfers dark marks onto all of my heads.) A set of crashes that go with it definitely appeals to cover that straight down the middle area.
