Your gear hauler

I'm driving a ten year old Subaru Outback with 120k mi. on it. So-far so good.They seem to have addressed the leaking head gasket issue that plauged Subaru's around the turn of the millenium. I bought it for carrying gear (of course) it'll fit a drumkit and luggage. It's also been a very safe and reliable family car.

What are y'all driving to haul your stuff and what vehicle would you recommend to someone?

Ah man this hits home for me right now. I’ve used a 1991 Eddie Bauer Ford Explorer with 280k miles on it for the last 20 years. With the back seat down it really holds anything and everything. I would often leave all the stands just setup and not really pack much gear in any cases. The old bird is really start to show its age and I’m not gonna put anymore cash into it. CA clean air district offers 2k to get these old cars off the road, so I’m gonna take that route here soon.

Now what? I’ve got Tacoma and a Corolla. Open bed on the pickup works fine with everything in hard cases. Did a gig Friday at a local Elks lodge and put everything in the car including a 20” 4 piece kit in the back seat. Either way the stuff has to be packed well cause I also bring the Bose PA that goes in the trunk. It’s a paradigm shift for me cause I can’t afford to replace the Explorer anytime soon.

I’m eager to hear what others have to say as I’m in the market for a replacement gear hauler myself.

2001 Honda CR-V, and it's my daily driver. I have had it for over 8 years and hope to get 8 more. Highly reliable. Me and my daughter took turns wrecking it for a while, and I never got it fixed after being T-boned in it several years ago. It's like an old pair of shoes; it just fits right. The compressor went out on the A/C, but life with the window down really isn't too bad.

I had to do a double take - I also drive a '15 Outback in that same color, and for the same reasons... Like it so much, another one's already on my very short list of potential new vehicles (maybe in another 10 years when it's finally time to replace it..)

I can fit my 7pc dbl bass kit, hardware, cymbals, and spare snare (or two), and still have more than enough room to fit the bass player and their rig...

2015 Ford Flex with 162,000 miles. I've had it for about a year and half and really like it. There's not as much room as my previous Chrysler Town and Country, but it drives more like a car. My gear fits and so does my mountain bike.
