SQ2 Snare Drum Lug Option

I've noticed SQ2 snare drums for sale in the 14 x 6" depth range have double lugs attached while some have the single lugs instead.
Their production model drums e.g. Prolite, AQ2,Kompressor & Cottonwood come standard with double lugs while the Artist Bronze comes with single's.

Is there a sonic or structural advantage to one choice over the other in the depth range of 5.75"-6.5" ?

Also- Which lug option did you choose and why?

I think the main difference is really the amount of mass on the shell. The double ended lugs just have less weight on the drum and should ring a little more freely. I'm a fan of the single ended lugs personally, I just like the way they look and the drums certainly aren't dead with them on. I'm always wary of single ended lugs when they're only mounted to the shell with one screw, but the Sonor lugs are double screw mounted so no issues at all.

When working on the batch of snare drums I bought late last year, I realized that when double ended lugs are only mounted with one screw, changing one head at a time can be fussy. If you have the snare side head at full tension, it's hard to get the batter side rods started again since the single screw design allows a little bit of a pivot. I have some 2000 series snares left. I may do a demonstration. Maybe not. Well see.

I learned this the (almost) hard way when changing heads on my Dad's Hilite. Kept the snare side head on while I swapped the top, the lugs splayed so much under the snare side tension I almost damaged the shell. I will not be swapping heads on any Hilite snare now without dropping the tension off both ends. Same would apply to the Force 2000/3000 drums and some of the Signature Symphonic stuff I'm sure.
