Re: What's in a name? "Force"

Here's my quick synopsis/opinions of Sonor's (primarily German made) naming history over the past 50 years; Ludwig started using phonic for their Supraphonic snares in the early 60's and then Sonor introduced the Phonic series to replace the Champions and Super Champions in the mid 70's. Phonic Plus ...

Re: What's in a name? "Force"

Yes, Delite was Designer Lite after lite had been established with Sonorlite and Hilite. I never understood why the change from Delite to Pro Lite was necessary. Maybe because it wasn't...

Re: D-506 vs D-456... what are the differences in the sound...?

I've never played a D-456, but would guess it sounds somewhat different due to the edges and number of lugs. I've had two D-506s and really liked them. They have a "density" to their sound that I haven't found in other snares. The only reason I don't still have one is that I'm making a conscious ...

Re: What's in a name? "Force"

SQ2 was originally called Drum Design. Here's Dave Kurdelak's kit via the Sonormuseum Geeks section. It's patterned after a Nicko McBrain kit from the 80's. He placed the order in August of 2003 and the kit arrived for NAMM in 2004. It had Designer badges because the two mallets weren't available ...

Re: Hobbies, and other pass-times

Fitness and golf for me, both as a result of my Dad. He was one of the best amateur golfers in South Dakota in his teens through his early 50's, winning the State Seniors tournment twice and 9 club championships on his home course. He gave up competitive golf in '69 at age 54 and took up distance ...

Re: Not another virgin bass drum thread

I have a severe dislike for cymbal stand mounted rack toms - they're a pain in the ***. My four kits all have a double tom mount on the bass drum and I did the drilling myself on the Delite/Designer Orphans, SQ2, and Vintage Series. I use a middle pedal and need the mount about 4" closer to the ...

Wow, great shell! I vote the Hilite lugs so less of the beautiful grain is covered.

Re: Where did the 17.5" bass drum depth come from?

SQ2's do not, but the UPID number sticker allows for looking it up on the configurator.
